The Ossified Caroticoclinoid Ligament and Interclinoid Ligament in a Specimen of Sphenoid Bone: A Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
The interclinoid ligaments between the anterior, middle and posterior clinoid process are occasionally ossified. A bony bridge between the anterior and middle clinoid process and another between the anterior and posterior clinoid process was found in a dry specimen of one adult sphenoid bone. It was found bilaterally, like a ring around the sella turcica. The occasional presence of this ossified interclinoid ligament may compress the internal carotid artery, interrupting the blood flow and may also compress the cranial nerves. So, the anatomical knowledge of such ossification is important and should be kept in mind and evaluated before proceeding to skull based surgery around the sella turcica region.

Ossification of Caroticoclinoid Ligament in a Human Skull: A Case Report
The Anterior Clinoid Processe (ACP) and Middle Clinoid Process (MCP) are sometimes connected by an osseous bridge formed by ossification of Carotico-clinoid Ligament (CCL), converting the distal end of carotid sulcus into an ostium called the Carotico-clinoid Foramen (CCF). Through the CCF passes one of the segment of Internal Carotid Artery (ICA). The CCF is the result of ossification of eithe...

Certain parts of the sphenoid bone are connected to each other by ligaments, which occasionally ossify, such as the pterygospinous (the ossification between the spine of the sphenoid and the upper part of the lateral pterygoid plate), the interclinoid (the ossification between the anterior and posterior clinoid processes); and the carotico-clinoid (the ossification between the anterior and midd...

The present study describes the morphometry of a unilateral ossified sacrotuberous ligament. It aims to discuss its Anatomical and clinical implications. The pudendal nerve, internal pudendal artery, nerve to obturator internus and coccygeal branch of inferior gluteal artery, are the important structures related to sacrotuberous ligament. An ossified sacrotuberous ligament may be an important et...
متن کاملThe ossified interclinoid ligament.
The paper presents an anatomical description of the ossified interclinoid ligament which was found in a male human skull. In the case studied the ossified ligament exists as a bony bridge between the anterior and posterior clinoid processes on the left side of the skull. The length of this connection was measured as 5.0 mm, while its thickness was 3.2 mm. We conjecture that the presence of a co...

Bombay Hospital Journal, Vol. 53, No. 4, 2011 Abstract The anterior and middle clinoid processes of sphenoid bone are connected by a ligament called carotico-clinoid ligament which may be ossified forming the carotico-clinoid foramen. In the present study, the incidence of ossified carotico-clinoid ligament and foramen was observed in one hundred and forty sides of adult dried skulls from the a...
